Current mood: mellow

When emusic sent me an email that said I could have 50 free downloads if I re-activate my account, I thought clicking on the subscribe button was just going to take me to their website so I could see if they meant I had to pay the 9.99 or if it was free the first month and 9.99 later if I didn't cancel... well no, the button in the email just activated it immediately and charged me the 9.99. I just get so used to a billing page and a real confirmation button I guess.

I didn't go and try to cancel it though because I figured now I have 30 for the 9.99 plus 50 free and I've been wanting to go get more anyway.

So... does anyone have any not-as-well-known bands that they would suggest I go listen to on emusic? I listen to samples and then download the ones I like.

I'm finding a lot of crap though so suggestions would help. Spencer maybe? (Do I have to ask you on Xbox live? haha)

So far, I've found Mark Lanegan's newer stuff. Well, stuff after Screaming Trees anyway. Some of it I loved, like the song Head.

I found "J Mascis and the Fog" and loved like 7 of those, I also got some older John Prine stuff, 4 Dinosaur Jr. songs, a Stars song (I didn't like more than just the one song), 3 new Lemonheads songs (who knew they had new stuff!?), and I wished they had more Old Canes songs but they didn't.

So I have 56 downloads left! That could take me a few days.

Guitar Hero 2 made me fall in love with the Toadies song "Possum Kingdom" so I went looking for it and they don't have it. I had to download the discography from bit torrent just to get the one song. I shouldn't complain though, when I was 10 I had to buy a whole tape just for one song. :)

I don't know your music tastes, but if you like "world music" (I'm not really sure exactly what that encompasses), then Dead Can Dance is awesome. Emusic has the album "A passage in time" which is probably my favorite of theirs.

If you like electronic music, they have a few albums by BT which are pretty good.

"Haughty Melodic" by Mike Doughty is one of my favorite albums. You should at least listen to "Busting up a Starbucks."

Oh thanks!!! I will go listen to those! Does BT stand for anything (besides the obvious!) or do I just search for BT?

BT is BT; it may stand for something, but I'm not aware of it.

Okay. :)

I'll do this from home tonight or tomorrow and let you know what I thought!

And yeah, I couldn't explain my musical tastes really. I can say my favorites are 60s/70s stuff like the Doors, James Taylor, Led Zeppelin, all that... and then it jumps to early 90's grunge Seattle type music like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Screaming Trees...

Then I like NIN and a lot of Marilyn Manson too, but I also love bluegrass and older country music! I like other types too but even just all those are my favorites and they're all over the place! :)

I'm pretty stuck on the White Stripes though so at least there is one newer band I can say is one of my favorites... most new music sucks in my opinion. I also love half of Arcade Fire's stuff. I have tickets to see them on the 30th and can't wait!

Ah, I came up in the 90s also (born in '79). I love NIN (saw them twice last year), Soundgarden, Faith No More, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, The Pixies, Alice in Chains, Rage Against the Machine, etc. I also really like Peter Gabriel, Portishead, Sisters of Mercy, Sade, and Suzanne Vega, and Stevie Wonder.

Over the years my music tastes have expanded to just about every genre. Lately I've been listening to a lot of world and electronic/downtempo music on Internet radio.

Oh I looove Alice in Chains and Faith No More! Those are also two of my favorites. I didn't get to see either of them. :(

I got to see Mr Bungle but its not the same. I was really close to Mike Patton though because we were in a small venue. He's just awesome.

Funny how you threw in Stevie Wonder. haha

Mike Patton is a god. You're so cool for liking him. I regret not seeing FNM, but I did really enjoy Mr. Bungle the three times I saw them. They put on one hell of a show.

Sucks that Layne Staley died, but I couldn't see it ending any other way for him. He did help invent heroin rock.

Don't knock Stevie Wonder. ;) Tons of modern "pop stars" rip him off because he's a legend and they're posers.

Oh I didn't knock him... I just thought it was funny. :)

Mike Patton has so many bands, I can't keep up, but I try!

I saw that Fantomas was at Coachella last year and I wanted to go but then NIN was on the opposite day so I got stressed about which day to pick and gave up.

I still listen to AIC all the time, I can't get over how much I love them.

When I was in Seattle, I asked this bartender where Eddie Vedder lived (I wasn't going to stalk him, I just wanted to see the area... I think...), and then I started talking about Jerry Cantrell and he was like "Oh! That guy was just sitting over there in that corner last night."

Ahhh, I need to go to Seattle way more often! :)

I got a few pictures from the grunge exhibit thing though...

and then my Nirvana one was this one...

Good thing the guards didn't see me. :)

What makes you think the law has anything to do with it. It is the suspension of the law that is in action here.

I don't really dig Dead Can Dance. A few people have tried to get me to listen to them but maybe I just wasn't in the right mood for it.

As for BT.. are there any you'd recommend? This type of music is hard to pick out based on a few seconds because a lot of it will sound similar... some voices are a girl, some are a guy with a gayer voice, and then another guy has a Trent Reznor voice, like in Never Gonna Come Back Down. I like the Never Gonna Come Back Down song! I can't tell which others to get...

Mike Doughty seems cool! Luckily I can get that album you mentioned from bit torrent so I'll just go download that whole album.

DCD isn't for everyone. I imagine you either love it or hate it.

My favorite BT album is a two-disc set called Ima. It has a song called "Blue Skies" which is sung by Tori Amos. The only other album I own is Emotional Technology, which is pretty good. With electronic/techo music, I find it's really hit or miss, which is really why I don't buy much, even though there is tons of good stuff. You may be able to listen to longer clips on Amazon. Sorry if that isn't much help.

Regarding Doughty, if you like a few songs, you'll probably like everything he does. It all has the same vibe, but it's not repetitive to me and he has some great lyrics. He was also in a band called Soul Coughing, which is great too.

If we like what you've written, we may be able to help you out. We deal primarily in Japanese, but we can arrange readers for Chinese, Korean and several Southeast Asian languages as well.

Oooooooh this is too funny! I was talking to my aunt in Gardena earlier this evening and before hanging up I asked... "Oh! Do you know who Huell Howser is?", and the only thing she did was laugh. Haha

Yeah... totally a California thing. I'm listening to the Bunny Museum clip right now. No matter how many times I listen to it I can't believe how excited he always gets over the weirdest things.

Huell fucking rules.

End of.

Anyone who can make a whole interviewing career over just repeating what the interviewee said (but in the form of a question) is fucking brilliant.

Bands that I like on emusic are:

Pixies, Bauhaus, The Chameleons, Love and Rockets, Kristin Hersh, Maximo Park, Bloc Party, Cocteau Twins, Lush, Underworld, The Walkmen, Every Move A Picture, I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness, The Sound, Echo & the Bunnymen, Richard Butler, Bark Psychosis, Celebration, Elbow, Film School, Frank Black, Justin Sullivan, New Model Army, Skinny Puppy, The Creatures, The Dears, The Frames

Does that help?

But don't you think he's just hilarious? He has to be the nicest guy ever so its sad to make fun of him, since he is genuinely amazed, suprised, adoring , and all of those things.. but its just funny!!

Okay awesome, there are some bands there I don't know, so I'll go check it out!

I'm still ready to pee on TVersity though!
